Scholarship Opportunity Available!

The Council of Developers of Outlet Centers & Retailers (DOC&R) wants to encourage the next generation of men and women entering the Outlet industry with our new scholarship opportunity for college students. Applicants must be a high school senior, college freshman, sophomore, or junior and plan to enroll or are currently enrolled in a 4-year bachelor’s degree program. A career interest in retail and real estate is preferred.

Also new this year is an additional scholarship opportunity. Darren Was Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship has been established in the summer of 2019 to honor the life of Darren Was and to continue his legacy of positivity, excellence, generosity and service. The Darren Was Memorial Scholarship is an annual, merit based competition, that focuses on rewarding ambitious, driven, goal-oriented individuals with an interest in commercial real estate. Financial need and overcoming adversity in life to achieve goals also will be considered.

All scholarships are one-time award that can range from $2000 - $2,500. The scholarship also includes travel and entrance into the ICSC annual shopping center conventions in either Las Vegas (May) or New York (December). Mentoring by senior industry professionals will be offered to all scholarship recipients during the convention.

We are excited to announce that we have given four scholarships in 2020. The Scholarship Committee reviewed over 25 applications. Each recipient received $2,000 toward tuition.

DOC& R Scholarships

Emily Zhou
Emily is a student at The University of Texas at Austin. She has done an internship at Schreiber and Associates. She is a member of the Undergraduate Real Estate Society and was a runner up in the UBC Sauder International Real Estate Competition. Emily hopes to explore an array of opportunities in the real estate industry. She is originally from Keller, Texas.

Evan Collins
Evan graduated from The Ohio State University this spring. He majored in Finance and Real Estate. He was also a summer intern at Washington Prime Group. Evan hopes to use real estate to make a lasting impact on the city he resides in. He wants to be able to boost the local economy and bring excitement into the city with meaningful and exciting concepts. Eventually, he wishes to open his own development company where he can control the impact in the local economy. Evan is from Independence, Ohio.

Vincent Stroll
Vincent will be a senior at Marquette University, where he is completing a degree in Business Administration, Commercial Real Estate, and Finance. He began pursuing real estate entrepreneurial research opportunities by starting a real estate property management firm on Marquette University’s campus. The company is operated and managed by students with the advisory help of real estate professionals in the Milwaukee vicinity. It is backed by Marquette’s College of Business Administration and Marquette’s Center for Real Estate. This experience has already allowed him to begin making a difference in the Near West Side Milwaukee community. Vincent is originally from Mequon, Wisconsin.

Darren Was Memorial Scholarship

Noah Reily
Noah is a rising senior at the University of Pittsburgh. majoring in finance and managerial accounting, Noah has successfully completed several internships, including Keystone Home and Mortgage and Somerset Trust Company. Through these experiences, he has become interested in commercial real estate. Noah has been on the dean’s list every semester and is also an academic scholarship recipient. He serves as treasurer of the Outdoor Club and is involved in the UPJ Business Club and UPJ Habitat for Humanity.  He is originally from Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.
